The lodging option is new and has a few bugs to work out. We had trouble checking in after the winery closed at 7pm, so just make sure to communicate a clear checking in schedule and contact info before going. The management team did a wonderful job rectifying the situation, apologized, and more than made it up to us.
Our son was married October 2017. We were not from the area and we began a search in the Jasper area for a place to have a rehearsal dinner for the wedding. Most of the mom and pop restaurants, of which we like to support, did not have the space for more than 30 people. We were running out of options. Having worked in the alcoholic beverage/winery industry in the Louisville I recalled they were building the new facility at Patoka Lake area. I contacted Harvey Edwards and set and appointment to view the venue and get details. Harvey is very gracious and accommodating. He and Rachel Lorett worked with a local caterer to iron out the details for us. They also found a local cleaner who we rented tablecloths from. It was a wonderful and enjoyable evening! You do have to supply your own decorations which was enjoyable for us to do for our son and his fiancé before the wedding. The wines are very good and appealed to everyone at the dinner. We would recommend PLW to anyone planning an event in the area. They have to smaller barrel rooms and then a larger room for events plus rooms available for the night. I was excited to visit Patoka Lake winery as I live out of town and enjoy coming to visit places such as this. For a business who thrives on locals and word of mouth, the lady who treated us so poorly could stand a lesson in customer service as well as revisiting the state drinking laws. My family and I frequent places around Patoka Lake all summer long, but sadly Patoka Lake winery will no longer be on our list.
Indiana law requires permittees and their employees to check identification of any person under the age of 40 when conducting carryout sales. While there is no similar ID requirement law for on-premise consumption, the Excise Police encourage requiring identification from anyone appearing under 26 years of age when making sales for on-premise consumption. Acceptable forms of identification are picture ID's, including but not limited to, a driver's license, state-issued ID card, US Government identification. REMEMBER: If you still question the age of the person you should refuse to serve them.
Their dry reds are wonderful, and the Riesling is really great as well :)
The wine is pretty good. A little sweeter than it advertises. Like semi sweet is more of a sweet. The atmosphere is amazing. Views are nice. Employees are knowledgeable and friendly. The wine tasting is always fun and you get to keep the wine glass. Little shop for gifts and small deli style cheese trays, etc.
We stayed in the suites above the winery and had a lovely experience. The suite was beautiful and comfortable, and it comes with everything you need to cook or drink wine! The winery itself is small, but with a cute gift shop and a great tasting experience. My husband and I loved the sweeter wines they offered, those are always our favorites.
The only other reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that the cleaning service in the room didn't clean out my coffee pot. Personal laziness aside, if I pay $200 a night they can do my dishes!
We had a lovely stay, it's worth the trip!
My 59 yo mother was denied service because she did not have identification. The bartender was rude and dismissive. A lot of consumers were turned away who did not have ID who were of visible legal drinking age. We were told the reason was "it's the law". Here is the drinking law in the state of IN for reference:
